"My psychotherapeutic approach is psychoanalytic/psychodynamic
with modifications depending on the diagnosis and individual
patients needs. Healing occurs in the context of the relationship
with the therapist and has both intellectual and emotional
aspects. Children need parents to be competent and to love
them.
In like manner, a patient needs her therapist to be well-trained
and to genuinely care for her at a feeling level, as a unique
individual with a unique life history. My therapeutic approach
is not appropriate for all patients, nor for all borderline
patients. I use psychotropic medications when necessary.
For most borderline patients who need medication, it is
best for the same person to prescribe the medication and
do the therapy."
